What is the EEOC's position on transgender individuals in the workplace?

Based on the EEOC's recent lawsuits on behalf of transgender individuals, two principles are clear.  First, an employer cannot require a transgender individual to dress according to the societal norms for their biological sex. Second, the transgender individual should be permitted to use the restroom matching the gender with which they identify. Employers should tread cautiously if these concerns arise in the workplace.
