My employee is pregnant and requested a seat at her workstation – do I need to do this?

If this is medically necessary, the employer must make this accommodation under the new Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, unless it is an undue hardship.  It may be difficult to establish that this short-term accommodation is either a hardship or a safety risk, but the employer should evaluate each situation individually.  This is also a good reminder to employers that some jurisdictions actually require that seating be made available to ALL employees at their workstation, unless it poses a safety or similar risk.
